Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the minimum age to register as a voter?
A: 18 years as on January 1 of the year of qualifying date. You can apply before your 18th birthday if you'll turn 18 by 1 Jan, 1 Apr, 1 Jul, or 1 Oct (four qualifying dates per year since 2023).
Q: I lost my Voter ID card — how do I get a duplicate?
A: File Form 002 at your Electoral Registration Officer's office or apply online at voters.eci.gov.in for a duplicate EPIC. Carry your application reference number to track the status.
Q: Can I vote using Aadhaar / driving licence if I lost my Voter ID?
A: Yes. The ECI allows 12 alternative photo ID documents for voting: Aadhaar, DL, PAN, Passport, Service ID issued by central/state govt, bank/post office passbook with photo, MNREGS job card, health insurance smart card (RSBY), pension card, NPR smart card, and disability certificate.
Q: Can an NRI register as a voter in India?
A: Yes. Indian citizens living abroad who have not acquired citizenship of another country can register as 'Overseas Voters' under Form 6A. They must vote in person at their registered constituency (no postal ballot for overseas voters currently).
Q: What if my name is missing from the voter list on election day?
A: Go to your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer with a complaint. You can also check the status of your registration at voters.eci.gov.in. If you registered but aren't on the list, it could be an administrative error — escalate to the District Election Officer.
