Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I vote at any polling booth or only at my assigned one?
A: You must vote only at the polling booth assigned to your address in the electoral roll. You cannot vote at a different booth even in the same constituency.
Q: My name appears in the voter list but I can't find my booth?
A: Search by your EPIC number directly on electoralsearch.eci.gov.in for the most accurate result. If you still can't find it, call Voter Helpline 1950 or visit your local ERO office.
Q: My polling booth address has changed since the last election. Why?
A: ECI may shift polling stations due to building changes, population growth, or accessibility reasons. Always check your booth on electoralsearch.eci.gov.in before every election — don't rely on the previous election's booth address.
Q: What documents do I need to carry to the polling booth?
A: Your EPIC (Voter ID card) is the primary document. If you don't have it, ECI accepts 12 alternative IDs: Aadhaar, Driving Licence, Passport, PAN card, MNREGS job card, bank/post office passbook with photo, service ID (central/state govt), health insurance smart card (RSBY), pension document, NPR smart card, disability certificate, or Unique Disability ID (UDID).
Q: Is it mandatory to carry the voter slip on election day?
A: No. The voter slip is helpful for finding your booth and serial number but it is not a mandatory identity document. You still need to show a valid photo ID (EPIC or any of the 12 alternatives).
Q: My name is missing from the voter list on election day. What do I do?
A: Contact the Presiding Officer at the polling booth immediately. They can check the supplementary rolls. If your name is genuinely absent, file a complaint with the Returning Officer or call 1950. Carry your application reference ID if you had applied recently.
