How to Apply โ Step by Step

Visit the Voter Portal
Go to voterportal.eci.gov.in or voters.eci.gov.in on any browser. You can also use the 'Voter Helpline' mobile app (Android / iOS).

Register / Log in
Click 'Sign Up' and create an account with your mobile number and email. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent for verification.

Select Form 6 โ New Voter Registration
After login, click 'New Registration' or 'Form 6 โ Inclusion of Name in Electoral Roll'. This is the correct form for first-time voters.

Fill in Your Details
Enter your full name (as on Aadhaar), date of birth, gender, father's / mother's / spouse's name, and your complete present address including constituency details.

Upload Documents
Upload: (a) a recent passport-size photograph on white background, (b) proof of age (Aadhaar / birth certificate / Class X marksheet), and (c) proof of address (Aadhaar / electricity bill / bank passbook). File size limit is 2 MB per document.

Submit and Note Your Reference ID
Review all details carefully and submit. You will receive a reference / application ID via SMS and email. Keep this safe for tracking.

Track Your Application Status
Log in to voterportal.eci.gov.in โ 'Track Application Status' โ enter your reference ID. Status updates include: Submitted โ Under Verification โ Approved โ EPIC Dispatched. EPIC card is dispatched by ordinary post within 30โ60 days of approval.

Track Your Application Status
- Go to voterportal.eci.gov.in and log in.
- Click 'Track Application Status' in the dashboard.
- Enter your reference / application ID received via SMS.
- Status will show: Submitted โ Under Verification โ Approved / Rejected โ EPIC Dispatched.
- Once approved, you can also download e-EPIC (digital voter ID) immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the minimum age to register as a voter?
A: 18 years. Since 2023, India has four qualifying dates per year โ 1 January, 1 April, 1 July, and 1 October. You can apply if you will turn 18 on or before any of these dates.
Q: I don't have an Aadhaar card. Can I still register?
A: Yes. Aadhaar is preferred but not mandatory. You can use any valid proof of age (birth certificate, Class X marksheet) and proof of address (electricity bill, bank passbook) as substitutes.
Q: Can I register if I moved to a new constituency?
A: Yes. Use Form 6 for a new constituency. Your old entry in the previous constituency will be automatically deleted once the new registration is verified.
Q: Is there any fee for voter registration?
A: No. Voter registration via Form 6 on voterportal.eci.gov.in is completely free of charge.
Q: How long does it take to get the EPIC (voter ID) card?
A: After your application is verified and approved (typically 30โ45 days), the EPIC card is dispatched by ordinary post. You can also download the e-EPIC (digital voter ID) immediately after approval.
Q: What if I applied but my name is not in the voter list?
